UPDATE ON ROAD CONDITIONS IN DUCK
Duck, NC. -- Due to the impact of the remnants of tropical storm Ida, there is a significant amount of water on the roads throughout the Town of Duck. In some areas, including around Tuckahoe Drive, the road has been reduced to one lane. It can be expected that these conditions will persist until the rain slows significantly or stops. If at all possible, please stay off the roads today. If you must venture out, use extreme caution. Additional updates will be issued as needed. Coastal Storm Update
A coastal flood warning is in effect until 8:00am Saturday, November 14. A coastal flood warning means flooding is occurring or imminent. Residents and visitors should be alert for rising water and take appropriate action to protect life and property.
A strong low pressure system will move slowly along the coast today and produce strong northeast winds of 30 to 40 mph. The strong winds and building seas could result in overwash and coastal flooding. Expect overwash in areas prone to flooding. Drivers should proceed with caution.
Rough surf conditions are expected along with a high threat of rip currents in ocean waters.
Highway 12 is open south of the Oregon Inlet Bridge. However, passage may be reduced to one lane in portions of Highway 12 through the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge to the Rodanthe area. Throughout the storm, road conditions could worsen especially around periods of high tide and travel should be planned accordingly. The next period of high tide is expected at approx 4:30pm Thursday afternoon.
Ferry service between Hatteras Village and Ocracoke is operating on a regular schedule. For updates on ferry service, call 1-800-BY-FERRY.
Sporadic power outages are a possibility. If you experience power outages, contact your power company to report the outage. The Northern Beaches and Manteo should contact Dominion North Carolina Power at 1-888-667-3000. Hatteras Island should contact Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative at 866-511-9862. Mainland Dare residents should contact Tideland Electric at 252-943-3046.
Dare County schools are closed today.
